Exclamation fscommand - Flash Lite support & Ovi Browser

    Hi all,

Previous version of ovi browser was able to run flash commands clearly, especially the "fscommand set".
fscommands provide very important device information to web developers, like IMEI, model, connection type, connection name, etc.

We develop s60 web apps to mobile owners but IMEI is crucial for our web app. We were very hopeful for the s40 ovi browser when we've tested the previous beta version. It was running fscommands smoothly. But this has changed in current beta version. S40 devices are not able to run fscommands (especially "getdeviceID" ) in version 1.0.0.11.8.

We're looking forward to support s40 devices with the help of ovi browser.

Re: fscommand - Flash Lite support & Ovi Browser

Is there any planned update to add Flash-lite support to Ovi Browser?... Or is there any way to retrieve IMEI from Ovi Browser?

Re: fscommand - Flash Lite support & Ovi Browser

As far as I can see, it's impossible to access to IMEI.
    .
Here is another question: Is it possible to access to Bluetooth ID with a s40 web app.? If it is possible, then it's a solution for our project. Bluetooth ID is also unique as the IMEI...

    Hello,

It's not possible to access IMEI or e.g. Bluetooth ID from Ovi Browser web pages or web apps.

If your service is running as a Series 40 web app, you can use the widget preferences to store and retrieve 'unique' values that are generated by your app (e.g. using the JavaScript DateTime object as your unique value generator)

    Thanks Petrosoi for your answer.
    .
Unfortunately, the unique id that we are looking for should be some kind of device id, not the event id. The aim is: the same S40 mobile shouldn't access to the web page again with the help of the unique device id that has recieved from the previous attempt.
    .
It's possible in S60 devices, it's easy to get IMEI -the main unique id- with flash commands via web page(server side).
    .
Is there any other suggestion from your side?
    .
If there is nothing to do from server side, i think we should consider "Java apps." instead of "easy to use" web apps. :/

    Hey,

As mentioned earlier, IMEI or other unique device IDs cannot currently be retrieved by web pages or web apps run inside Nokia Browser for S40.
Furthermore, the request headers from Nokia Browser for S40 do not reveal any info that could be used for unique identification.

You can use e.g. the DateTime object to create a unique cookie (web page) or preference value (web app) and save that same value your backend.
Your identification code should then first check for the existence of a saved cookie/preference and compare it's value to the values at your backend, before making the redirection decision.
