Question Where is S60 5th Ed SDK Context Sensitive Help GUI

    Hi all,

In 5th Ed SDK it says
Launch the CS Help compiler GUI from the start menu option: start->programs->Symbian xx SDKs->Development Tools->CSHelp Compiler where Symbian xx SDKs is the version of the SDK you have installed.
    But I can't find it :(

Has it been removed from the SDK ? Is there any sufficient tool to get the job done ?

    Best Regards.

Re: Where is S60 5th Ed SDK Context Sensitive Help GUI

Hmm, I don't remember when it was the last time I've seen that thing. Some S60 2nd Edition SDK ...
The app is still in the SDK but remains to be seen if it still works with current Java & Windows OS versions.

    Code:
    c:\S60\devices\S60_5th_Edition_SDK_v1.0\epoc32\tools\cshlpcmp>java -jar cshlpcmp.jar

Re: Where is S60 5th Ed SDK Context Sensitive Help GUI

I hope there is an answer to my question, as I tried hard and I couldn't figure out how to run Context Sensitive Help GUI , I read about it in S60 5th Ed SDK as below :

How to launch the CS Help compiler GUI
Launch the CS Help compiler GUI from the start menu option: start->programs->Symbian xx SDKs->Development Tools->CSHelp Compiler where Symbian xx SDKs is the version of the SDK you have installed.

On launching the CS Help compiler GUI for the first time you are required to set your preferences. These can be changed at any time afterwards from the file | preferences menu, see How to set project preferences.
and this is the same info mentioned also in 3rd Ed FP1 SDK, and I couldn't find either :(

    I'm using S60 5th Ed SDK, Window7 platform.

    Any help would be appreciated.

ashraf, that tool is not essential. You may be able to make it work with some very old Java version (1.4.2 is that comes to mind, but maybe even older) if you manage to make that java version work with the current OS.

The best option would be to simply ignore the tool and focus on editing and managing the help files "manually".

Re: Where is S60 5th Ed SDK Context Sensitive Help GUI

    Many thanks Itomuta for your answer;

I tried before to make help files manually and it was painful and it didn't end as I needed, I couldn't manage to control the font or adding images or even make it compatible with touch screen devices - To scroll up and down with finger movements anywhere in the screen, not restricted to scroll-bar, to meet UX rules.

Plus I read that context sensitive on S60 5th Ed and forward using HTML pages now, is this right ?

I found also while searching this topic, do you have any idea about it ?

Re: Where is S60 5th Ed SDK Context Sensitive Help GUI

That old GUI front-end would not help you improve the behavior of the Help viewer application so you cannot get better behavior for your application's help.
Yes, since S60 3.2 the devices support also a new help format but the toolchain for it is not yet available. We're working on releasing it but I have no ETA for it yet.
