    See Madsum's code in #7 of http://www.developer.nokia.com/Commu...ted-to-my-6630
    If you do not want to create an RConnection, you can try search for active iap in the Wiki and check the articles you find, or you can simply take the loop from the code, and search for non-0, non-127.0.0.1 address, instead of that IAP-matching in "iZone".

    Opening a socket is an entirely local action, it does not communicate anything over the connection.

    ok what about this
    TSessionPref pref;
    pref.iAddrFamily = KAfInet;
    pref.iProtocol = KProtocolInetTcp;
    User::LeaveIfError(iSocketServ.Connect(pref));
    he is using iSocketServ to open socket ... isnt it opening a new connection? ot the RSocketServ is not making any actual connection here?

    Re: getting device iP adress

    RSocketServ is a handle to the Socket Server, in which context "server" is not about networking, but inter-process communication strictly internal to your device. Similarly to the File Server, the Alarm Server, and many others.
    Passing "hint"-s to RSocketServ::Connect is not mandatory, and it is simply about loading the necessary drivers in advance.
