    Content Handler (JSR-211) & "Conflicting applications"

    Hi,

    I'm developing J2ME app, that can be launched via Content Handler. I'm able to register my midlet as content handler and installation goes fine. But when starting app "Conflicting applications" error is displayed, if I press show to see what apps are conflicting my own app is only listed.

    I'm able to "launch" my midlet from another midlet via content handler registry. But it gives me same error.

    If I drop out content handler registration from JAD-file my midlet installs and runs fine.

    My JAD file is following:
    Code:
    MIDlet-1: MyMidlet, , MyMidlet
    MIDlet-Jar-Size: 1930
    MIDlet-Jar-URL: MyMidlet.jar
    MIDlet-Name: MyMidlet
    MIDlet-Permissions-Opt: javax.microedition.content.ContentHandler
    MIDlet-Vendor: MIDlet Suite Vendor
    MIDlet-Version: 1.0.0
    MicroEdition-Configuration: CLDC-1.1
    MicroEdition-Handler-1: MyMidlet, application/mymidlet, .mm, ,
    MicroEdition-Handler-1-ID: com.example.mymidlet
    MicroEdition-Profile: MIDP-2.0
    Couldn't find much information about "Conflicting applications" error.
    Any help on this?

    I'm developing for S40 5th/6th edition

    Thanks,
    Jascco

    Hello jascco,

    are you testing on a Nokia device or with an SDK emulator?

    Re: Content Handler (JSR-211) & "Conflicting applications"

    I have tested mainly on C3-00, and my app fails on this device.

    On WTK 2.5 simulator everything works fine.
    Havent tested on S40 simulator

    Edit: I forgot to mention that if I use dynamic registration everything works.
    But it is not an option because, my content handler must work straight after installation.

    Total guess below :-)
    Hmmm... could it be that some previous installation of your app screws the current installations (one of the earlier registrations was not properly removed from the phone)? Could you try resetting the phone and installing your app again?

    Thanks Hartti, this was my first tought also. I have tried to reset phone but still same issue, also I have tried with multiple different Content Handler types (plain/text, application/myMidlet, etc...)
    I have to tried on my N8 to see if it works there.

    Re: Content Handler (JSR-211) & "Conflicting applications"

    Hi,

    Just tried to reset my phone by using *#7370# and after restart I check which content handlers are registered, and result is that content handlers aren't resetted.
    So my old test content handlers still exists, eventhough Midlets are removed. Are there any ways to do total reset?

    Also did some tests with my N8, but I can't get access Register, because Register.getRegistry() allways throws IllegalArgumentException.
    I have tried with following:
    Code:
    registry = Registry.getRegistry("com.test.myMidlet");
    registry = Registry.getRegistry("myMidlet");
    registry = Registry.getRegistry("MIDlet-1");
    my midlet class name is com.test.myMidlet
    and JAD files states: MIDlet-1: MIDlet-1,,com.test.myMidlet

    To completely reset the phone - have you tried installing the firmware again? (I have not done that for ages on Series 40 device, so I do not have any details on this...)

    For S40 phones,you can re-install (reset) OS via OVI suit.

    Re-installing firmware doesn't reset installed applications because it makes backup of device. Couldn't find any settingto turn that off.

    But at the time of firmware upgradation via OVI suit,it will ask you for backup.then simply say NO.

    Re: Content Handler (JSR-211) & "Conflicting applications"

    Ok, figured it out. There is no questions if to make backup it just starts, but if you quickly press stop backing up is stopped =) Then you can select install without backing up

    Actually it won't help,
    afterr hard reset, soft reset and firmware installation (without backing up) my old Content Handlers still exist

    And to get this thread back to its track, I tested with CHAPIdemo provided by WTK, and it gives me same error "Conflicting applications".
    Any ideas how this can be solved?

    Go to a Nokia Care point at let them do a full firmware update (which includes the only (official) way to get a complete RESET in Series 40).
