Publish an app for only certain firmwares of a given phone

    Hello,

my app is already in Ovi for virtually all recent phone models except Nokia 500, and that's because all its firmwares up to 10.32 were buggy ( one library was buggy ) and my app crashed there. I have submitted a bugreport, and things are now corrected - my app runs well on the new 11.33 firmware.

Looks like I still cannot enable Nokia 500 in the list of phone my app is available for, because there seems to be no way to publish it for 'Nokia 500, firmware >=11.33' , right?

So it looks like I simply will never be able to sell to Nokia 500 users?

Re: Publish an app for only certain firmwares of a given phone

As far as I know, the Ovi/Nokia Store client doesn't send the firmware version info to the store backend, and publishers do not have a way to limit/restrict the content per firmare version (the former would be a prerequisite for this).

In addition, there're no facilities to do the check at installation time, either.

On Symbian based phones, you could run a piece of your own code at installation time, and then pop up a message to the user, if the firmware is too old for your app. Of course, for this there are probably no pubished APIs to get the firmware version info. And, secondly, if it was a commercial app, by the time the installation runs, the user would already have paid for it anyway (unless you can make use of in-app purchasing and charge them later). And even in that case, you'd have an unhappy user.

Perhaps you can enable it for the phone, but make sure in the description in the store that for the Nokia 500 a specific firmware version is required?

Without Nokia's support there's not much more you can do about it.

The closest would be differentiating by OS for Symbian ^ 3 devices. This is available since the latest version of Nokia Publish where you can enter the minimum OS required for your application. Otherwise it is as petrib said, the store cannot distinguish by firmware versions.

Is publishing by firmware supported for N9?

Sadly no. All MeeGo apps must be compatible with the PR 1.0 firmware.
