Unhappy Cannot change backlight level on Asha 200

I am writing a book reader for S40. As far as S40 phones don't have interface for backlight level setup, I use DeviceControl.setLights() for decreasing of brightness. It works in SDK 1.1 simulator but not on an actual device (Asha 200). Could anyone help me? Or can I hope that this feature will be fixed in the next firmware realeses? Thank you!

Re: Cannot change backlight level on Asha 200

Hi alekmit and welcome to Nokia's Discussion Boards,

Based on information found here, the setLights method is supported on S60 devices starting from S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1. It seems that it is therefore not possible to use it on Asha 200.

This method is supported under Series 40 according to javadoc and a midlet invoking this method doesn't produce any error\exception. It just does nothing. I can just conclude that this method in asha 200 is just a stub. Also I have read that on some devices from Series 40 setLights() is working.

Re: Cannot change backlight level on Asha 200

javadoc covers classes and packages that are available for both Series 40 and S60. Unfortunately, while some Nokia.UI API classes and methods are available on Series 40, like the FrameAnimator or Gestures, others like the setLights method is only implemented as a stub (not truly supported on Series 40) and that is why you don't get an error or exception.

Yes, that method is a stub on Asha 200 but not in all every other Series 40 devices. Is it harware restriction on Asha 200? It is very sad.

Can you specify which Series 40 devices you read this about?
