Re: Using X-wap-profile to decide touch or no touch at server side

    Hi,

To my knowledge x-wap-profile does not tell what input method is used. For Symbian devices you could check screen resolution, and if it is 640x360 it will be a touch device.
However that would not catch special cases like E6-00 or Maemo / MeeGo Harmattan devices.

Maybe WURLF would be better match for your needs. WURFL usage and mobile device detection is talked in this article:

    Hi,

In those cases it is even more important to rely to something like WURFL. X-wap-profile is not versatile enough for this use, I'm afraid.

For a client side solution, Modernizr has support for touch detection. Unfortunately is does not work on Symbian, as touch events are not supported by the browser (false negative in a sense).

    Thanks Mr Ilkka,

Insted of wurfl i am planing to parse the x-wap-profile why because it is a open source and giving accurate results than wurfl but problem is in finding touch/not.

    Regards,
    Divi
