    Re: Nokia Web Tools 2.0 (beta) released - a prize for your feedback sir?

    An interesting addition could a ThemeRoller-like (example) approach to styling the provided UI elements. This tool/wizard could help us to create a new s40-theme.css with different colors and font sizes in the same way that people have been doing with jQueryUI for ages. IMHO, it would be a very useful tool. What do you think?

    Re: Nokia Web Tools 2.0 (beta) released - a prize for your feedback sir?

    Hi,
    Here is my feedback on Nokia Web tools.

    First of all I would congratulate you people had done a good job that you have introduced an amazing tool into the market. I must surprised about the tool.when i first heard about the tool that Nokia web tools, i thought it would be similar to all existing tools but when i worked hands on it, i felt very very easy to develop an app. A good developer can able to develop a good app with better quality within shorter time. That was the damn good thing about the tool. One thing that i noticed that it make use of eclipse. i felt very good if it develops applications with its own environment of course it can make use of different technologies like JAVA, HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, etc. I can also suggest you to grab the technology like drag and drop facility. That makes the product very efficient and more easier to developer.
    One thing i have observed while developing apps, the Nokia simulator makes some kind of disturbances like crashing, goes into not responding state, or not responding to input from the tool etc. And try to make the tool to occupy least memory in primary memory. Please be concentrate on performance issues because those makes the tool efficient. so that ultimately it gives the better output.
    And i think the Future to phone vendors gonna be the app world.Hope the Web Tool will make the wonders in app world.

    Igor,
    This is a very good suggestion. Could be part of the template wizard as well as the snippet customization.

    Kranthi,
    Thanks for your feedback. Could you provide more details so that we can look at your particular scenarios of simulator crashing? It would be help us to reproduce the problem.
    In the next version that we are working on, simulator performance and stability are two areas that we are looking at improving.

    Re: Nokia Web Tools 2.0 (beta) released - a prize for your feedback sir?

    I installed the Nokia Web Tools in another PC using Ubuntu and the simulator is not working (I got it working on my home PC). Everytime I run an app (does not matter if it is local or cloud preview) the WDE stops at "Launching *** in Simulator". Everything appears to work ok, but the simulator won't launch.

    The first thing I tried was to launch WEBSDKSIM from the command line, but it complained about some libraries (phonon and multimedia stuff). I copied these libraries to my /usr/lib and now I'm getting a segmentation fault. The complete output is below.

    Segmentation fault (core dumped)
    I simply downloaded the .deb from the website and installed it using Ubuntu Software Center. Also tried reinstalling, but it didn't work. Is this a known issue? How can I fix this situation? I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 (32 bit) on a Core i7 with 8Gb RAM.

    Thanks.

    Re: Nokia Web Tools 2.0 (beta) released - a prize for your feedback sir?

    A few suggestions, some of them short term, some of them long term:

    1) Editor themes:
    If I recall correctly, prior versions of WDE were based on Aptana. Currently, Aptana studio has a nice selection of color themes
    that various folks have spent the time to make nice and readable and easy on the eyes. It may seem like a nit picky preference
    type issue, but to me it is also an important ergonomic issue. Spending many hours looking at code on bright white screen strains
    my eyes, and I always go for a dark editor theme whenever it is offered. Please consider adding an editor color theme library
    similar to what's offered in Aptana Studio.

    2) Web Developer Channel:
    As of August 31, the Web Developer Channel now shows some updates for snippets and examples. However, prior to today, this
    page of the IDE had been saying "stuff coming 'soon'" for months on end. This is not good marketing to would-be Nokia developers
    who may only occassionally check in with Nokia to see how things are going. "Coming soon" screens that never change communicate
    neglect/abandonment. It would be better to determine how to display a "coming soon" placeholder only when things are really
    coming soon and/or has a firm delivery date.

    3) Layout building:
    This is a bit longer term but how about:
    Allowing component drag & drop to work in the outline view,
    Allowing component property editing in a property sheet ala Qt Creator, with property sheet edits reflected back into the HTML,
    Ability to create named custom components with sensible default parameters that can be added to the snippets view (maybe this already exists
    if the developer just gets in there and hacks?)
    Ability to copy/paste/re-parent components in outline view

    4) Longer term iteration efficiency:
    The Enyo JS framework from webOS can be used in the browser, which allows devs to use the very efficient real time feedback they
    get from e.g. Chrome dev tools to tweak UI composition in a very tight loop with no simulator launches or reloads. It would be awesome
    to see a Nokia supported (and/or community supported) brower based dev flow, if not for the entire end to end development of an app,
    at least for UI composition and Ajax testing.

    Hi Everyone

    The Asha Touch Competition 2012Q3 is now complete and the winner of the feedback competition announced. You can of course still post your feedback on the SDK here, or in this forum.

    Thank you to everyone who took the time to create feedback. We've been very pleased with your responses - some reported bugs have been fixed in the current product and others will be fixed in furture releases. So this has made a real difference for all developers using our Web App tools.

    Regards
    Hamish

    Re: Nokia Web Tools 2.0 (beta) released - a prize for your feedback sir?

    Hi everyone,

    I just found 1 bug. I don't know whether this is has already posted by other people or not.

    in Javascript, write this code :

    var x = 0;
    while(true){
    alert(x);
    }

    and it will produce an infinite loop also infinite alert.
    I know that alert will not be displayed in the real device, but alert is something that very useful; sometimes programmer use it to make sure whether the script/application reach that line of code or not. Or to check whether it has the right value or not.

    I have tried to reload the simulator (CTRL + R and "Reload" button), change the emulator type (from full touch -> half touch or else) and the alert still there.
    When I tried to close the emulator, the toolbar is gone but the emulator is not, and not responding.

    FYI :
    Windows 7 64-bit
    WebTools Version: 2.0.0.201206191705
    WDE Version: 3.6.0.201206191705

    I haven't tried it yet on the newest WDE (Released on 27 August 2012), still downloading...

    UPDATE:
    The problem is still there in the latest WDE I just downloaded.
