Custom base map tile provider ?

I'd like to use a custom tile provider for my map display. Trying to set my custom MapProvider with setBaseMapType() leads to:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Provider not in base providers

I'm able to use my custom tiles as an overlay but I'd like to skip the whole nokia provided base map. Or is that just not possbile ?

Not really as what I would like is not to use any of the Nokia provided tiles, at all. And with an overlay it will try to download the Nokia tiles and I don't need that as the tiles I would use would cover them 100%

The feedback I got for this in one of the S40 webinars is that it's unfortunately not possible to override the Nokia base tiles, only overlays can be used.
