Major hardware bug in Nokia 808 - HSPA crashes the phone

This must be well known to many; it's all over the internet and the context is e.g. here
    http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nser...696418#M304207

    The Nokia workaround
    http://www.nokia.com/gb-en/support/t...FA140286_en_US
is a poor solution because, in the UK at least, 3G is around 300kbits/sec whereas HSPA is 5x to 10x faster.

According to an official Nokia post in that thread (around Nov 2012) Nokia service centres have been issued with instructions on how to modify the PCB.

It's fairly obvious to me (electronics hardware/software developer) that the problem is the much higher power consumption when running HSPA, which collapses the power supply and crashes the phone.

The specific issue is that Nokia UK's website, "Buy" link, points to Amazon UK and all sellers there are grey imports, which Nokia service centres won't touch.

    What can one do?

Welcome to the Nokia Developer discussion board, this DiBo concentrates on development related issues, for creating 3rd party application and services to Nokia devices & services, thus we here are generally not concentrating on HW or end user issues.

The end-user problems related Dibo is at : http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/, to which you already appeared to have a link. And as the link indicated that there are some knowledge on the issue already, there would not be any points on making any dublicate bug reports either.

Yes; I posted that same link in my original post

The end user forum is almost useless. Just a load of people tearing their hair out.

I wondered if anybody here, where presumably there will be many experts, might know more. Or is everyone here bound by an NDA, otherwise their developer status will be terminated?

There is no NDA regarding that, the fact is that there are not many hardware experts here. The scope of this site is to support 3rd-party software developers, so the people posting from Nokia side here (having Nokia Developer Expert designation) are also software developers/engineers/architects.
