Question What is the role of mobile operators in NFC payment?

I'd like to ask, what is the role of mobile operators (like AT&T,T-Mobile ..) in NFC mobile payment ?

    • They provide secure element(secure SIM card)? NFC enabled mobiles have their own.
    • They enable secure connection? We know cryptography and anyway, basic smart cards don't have internet access and they work great

Why do I need mobile operator for emulation my Visa card on my NFC phone?

    thank you!

Based on the slightly shallow, but still existing info on http://www.visaeurope.com/en/newsroom/factsheets.aspx, they do not seem having a direct role. Data transmission may be involved though.

Well at least here in Czech republic I need special SIM card from my operator (which has to have some contract with my bank) to use mobile payments. It seems pointless for me.

If you mean something like this: http://www.telefonica.cz/en/press-re..._Republic.html, they talk about NFC SIM there, which is a thing that actually exists: http://www.nearfieldcommunication.org/sd-sim-cards.html or http://www.gsma.com/mobilenfc/
    So it is about security.

The SIM has never been hacked, so that's real added security. Only networks have been hacked, so the SIM is incredibly more secure than a VISA card.

    Ok so conclusion is
mobile operators are important because they provide special secure SIM cards, which are used as secure element providing secure environment for payment, ticketing and so on.

Most of current phones which are NFC enabled doesn't have included secure element (on their motherboard), which is required for mobile payments.
