QOTW: launching the Nokia store client from a midlet

So i'd like to contribute my nice question for you all (even though i know the answer i think its a nice question that will get you guys exploring & thinking & digging through the java library).

Can you launch the Nokia store client from a midlet?
The use case for such is to link back to your publisher page and/or to help the user rate your app etc.
a simple enough question you'd think but not a simple enough answer because the answer is not a determinant Yes or No.

When you think about the answer think of the platform you working with (big difference between Series 40 and Symbian) and there are also other difference within the same platform.

    +1

There's no API call to specifically launch the Nokia Store app, but I am sure you can just link to the URL of where the app is in the Nokia Store.

A good question. Perhaps would make a good wiki article with example code (launched from an About page perhaps under "Rate my app". - so that other people can use this.

Every information which is not directly documented is worth an article(Even if you garner the answer here, its still worth going to wiki if its not documented)

I think we just need to use platformRequest but we need to change the URL a little bit.
For example, my game link on Nokia Store is http://store.ovi.com/content/358563
We need to change it to http://store.ovi.mobi/content/358563

    Hey Jeffrey,
Have you tried this with Asha device? it actually wont launch you the Nokia store but will leave you on the mobile site.

So here is the full complete answer:
On symbian its indeed easy and can be done with http://store.ovi.mobi/content/XXXXX link format with platformRequest
On Series40 this link format wont open the Nokia store client so there is no real way 3rd party app developers can launch the store, however for apps that are signed with Manufacture or Operator domain there is a way to launch other midlets so in theory they can launch the Nokia store client from another midlet using the "javaapp" locator.

    Code:
    new NDEFRecordType(NDEFRecordType.EXTERNAL_RTD, "urn:nfc:ext:ovistore:link");
Furthermore with Symbian Belle, Nokia introduced the possibility to start the Ovi Store by a NFC tag.

Earlier versions of the Series 40 Store registered:
    MicroEdition-Handler-1: mango.client.Client,ovistore/item
