xPress Browser 3.0: I hope this is a joke!

    Hi,

    I just watched http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=gBB-H61EoH8
This Nokia Now thing is apparently a WebApp. Please tell I'm wrong, but as it seems, you have decided that the "next generation of full touch Ashas" should have
    1) a virtual button, despite having a hardware back button,
    2) a permanent, thick black menu bar on the bottom, instead of this one, unobtrusive transparent menu button,
    3) a different resolution than all existing full touch devices (for the worse)
    4) thanks to the menu bar, a different useable innerHeight than all other qvga Series40 devices.

You must be kidding me, please tell me that I'm wrong. If not, I have some ideas for future products:
A horizontal touch and type device,
Rename mwl to nwl, just for fun,
Add the notification/time bar so the useable innerHeight changes again,
Abandon WebApps in favor of Qt/qml, but don't tell anyone for years.

    Sorry for this sarcasm.

I think you've got a point. But also I think Asha 501 and its software platform are great. But Nokia needs to make the web app much more powerful, make it HTML5, make it has much more native capabilites, and most importantly, copy/paste support

HTML5 would be nice, but what we really need is full support for Javascript (and subsequently JQuery). I believe that improvements in this area are in the works, so there's a lot of reasons to remain confident.

I can't comment on the other points, but the reason the resolution is different is because the Asha 501 uses a new OS (essentially Smarterphone) which currently only supports 240x320. Yes, I know it's a pain to add extra support for yet another resolution, but with all the extra features that the new OS offers (with hopefully more to come!), I think we can get over this.

Thanks for good laughs, nwl is something we should really consider

    1) usage of virtual back button and hardware back key is something that we must clarify in UX documentation.
    2) The black menu bar in the bottom, as shown in video, is from the web app. The actual menu "handle" is shown in video 0:06 (rest of the screen is white, but in the middle you can see menu cue.
I would say, that it is even less obtrusive than before.
    3) Yes it is different than FT height vise, but width matches.
But you are right. If you have already made fixed height layout for web app, then one needs to make new CSS for Nokia Asha platform 1.0 based devices.

    4) inner width/height is actually 240*320

From the launch video, I believe that Nokia Asha 501 has a floating virtual keyboard. I think it would be a great plus for web apps that require an input from the user. In the legacy Asha devices, there was no floating keypad.
