How to do layout in LCDUI?

I want to know how to do layout in LCDUI?
Specifically I want to have a search bar on the top and fixed, and then a list of search engines at the bottom and scrollable, nothing more. How could I achieve this in LCDUI?

You can't have fixed items on a form so you'll have to use a canvas (create your own UI components).

You can do this using LWUIT, see LWUIT search list example refer to http://lwuit.blogspot.in/2009/09/los...with-text.html

Re: How to do layout in LCDUI?

    Hello imgen,

The thing you need to understand is:
You do NOT do layout in LCDUI. You let the phone do the layout for you.
The phone should do it in a way that it looks like all other apps on THIS phone OS.

Like most thing in life this has advantages and disadvantages.
    Advantages:
    It is easier.
You can develop faster when do don't think about layout.
The amount you need to learn is not so big.
You sdk-api is not so big.
You can consult it to see all methods that are available.
One build app works on different phones with different screen sizes.
the app works like the other apps on the phone, this helps the user.

    Disadvantage:
You can not control the layout.
You can not control the layout.
You can not do advanced user interfaces.
On some phone it looks bad or even awful. Luckily with the new Nokia touch devices it looks as good as the own apps on the phone.

Thx for the detailed reply, although i'll add one more advantages of the LCDUI is that it has much better startup time than the LWUIT, I believe it may also have better performance.
