Optimal car-based route - feasibility, usage limitations, text-only, attribution

I need to build in an "optimal car-based route" feature in an iPhone app (initially for the US only). My understanding is this can be done for multiple stops on a route (correct?) But I'm not clear what plans offer what usage limitations (are the calls per day based on the app itself or based on each smartphone?). And I'm not clear what obligations we have as far as displaying a map (vs. displaying a text list of the route) and what attributions are required.

Can someone clarify these points for me?

    Thank you.

It is doubtful that you could really use a Java-based API. For iPhone you may want to check the Web-based API-s, see http://developer.here.com/web-apis for documentation, and the board http://www.developer.nokia.com/Commu...-Location-APIs, there are links to Wiki articles too. My impression is that the REST API may be the one which you can reach directly, without having an HTML/JavaScript engine involved.
