    Hi.
I noticed that the id of nearby places all begin with a prefix code. What is the logic that it created?

    thanks

    Re: Place id

I never seen any docs for place ID creating, other than its been said that they are globally unique. Anyway, could it be that the places you are seeing were created at the same time.

    Re: Place id

    Hi,

The structure of place IDs is not part of the public API and might change at any time for newly created places. Please treat it as an opaque string.

Please also make sure that you don’t construct URLs yourself but follow the links in our responses. Otherwise you might run into problems.

The two sole purposes of place IDs for API users are:
    * to have an ID to match if your application is storing additional place related data and.
    * to recognise if you already have a locally cached version of that place and don’t need to fetch it again. Edit: This is not true, please use the URL and honour cache-controls when cache places and the ID only if you need to cache your own content related to the place. See my other comment from 14 August in this thread.

    Best
    daniel.

    Re: Place id

    Hi,

Please be aware that you are only allowed to cache places content for client-side session caching (see Terms and conditions, http://developer.here.com/terms_conditions, section 5H).

And I have to correct myself: you should not use the place ID for caching places. Please use the provided URL for session caching and honour our cache controls.

You can use the place ID in case you are associating your own content (e.g. photos) with our places to determine, if you need an additional request to your backend for that content.

    Best
