Can I send a Map link in message inbox to directly launch the Map Application ?

    Hi,

I want to send a text message with an embedded Map link so that anyone can launch the Map application on a simple click at the provided link same like http link.As we have seen that if there will be a Web URL in text message then link will gets open in default browser. Can we achieve same kind of feature for Map links.

As far as I know, with Asha devices we do not have such functionality implemented with maps, thus you could not get it done.

The SharingManager is able to generate URLs according to the schema defined for the Map Image API. This is a server-side hosted API which will analyze the request and forward the user to the most appropriate HTTP service. For example web browsers will go to here.com, most smart-phones will be forwarded to m.here.com and feature phones will be passed a static image to display. This is appropriate since you can't tell the capabilities of the receiving device when sending the message.

Now, currently when the Lumia receives a link to here.com in the browser, it is smart enough to use the on board maps instead. If an m.here.com link is opened, the mobile website is loaded instead.
At the moment the Asha range doesn't have a launcher to do this, but such functionality would need to be integrated into the platform rather than as an application.

What we all really want is a proper cross-platform implementation of the maps: and geo: URI schemas as proposed in rfc5870

For asha, if you have your app on all devices to which you are sending these map's - you can use PushRegistry to launch your app on the target phone using port directed SMS msg.
