    CloseWhatsApp Application

    Hello
Nokia Developer/Publisher support told me he should ask my question here.
On Symbian it's not possible the close WhatsApp by default, only 3rd party taskmanagers or app killers can end it. (e.g. androtaskman, JBak, KillMe)

Will Nokia QA accept an little app which:
    - has no UI
    - closes the related processes with Qt/native C++ mix (a Qt function with TFindProcess, RProcess etc.)
    - shows a CAknConfirmationNote like "Successfully closed WhatsApp"
    - needs PowerMgmt Capability
    or not?

    Regards

Firstly, how would you run an app which has no UI ?
And what would be the point of having no UI ?

What huellif means is the only sort of user feedback is just CaKn popup note that notifies the use that WhatApp has closed.

Basically press the icon, it closes whatsapp, the popup appears and bobs your uncle.

Personally I think QA should be okay with it, as long as it does it's task.

like Allstar said, it's just a shortcut.
Like an console app which runs, shows an backup and closes.

I will port it to Qt and C++ when I have time and send it to QA, let's hope they will accept it.

It already works in s60v3 MiniCMD framework, but that's not a clean solution (it needs a developer cert/disabled platform security because of high caps)

    Re: CloseWhatsApp Application

If you have noted, I suppose we still have the requirements for About, Help & Exit for the app, so you can not have it fully as Non-UI application.

    Re: CloseWhatsApp Application

I have Apps without About/ Help pages, never failed before, I guess huellif could make the note say something like

    "Close WhatsApp by huellif:

    WhatsApp closed"

And since the App closes itself, I guess he can always try and see what happens

symbianyucca: i think that those About, Help & Exit requirements are only for Java apps as they are part of the java verified critieria.
i think i never had a Qt app failed due to lack of those.
huellif: i think you can "kill" whatsapp with the default task manager, HOWEVER it keeps its push notification service up i think because its a different pid (i think)

    Re: CloseWhatsApp Application

default taskmanager can't quit the whatsapp.exe
    it's only get's in background

e.g. open a chat with a contact, than open taskmanager and close the app
now touch whatsapp in menu and instead of a splashscreen you are in the same view as before.

or use a taskmanager like besttaskman, it's still shows the .exe after "closing" via default taskmanger

    Re: CloseWhatsApp Application

it failed QA because the UI didn't open ...

    This app has no UI.
Only a global note when it closed whatsapp and a discreetpopup when it doesn't run.

QA told me it only shows "Error, WhatsApp doesn't run".

That's not an error from my app, it's a feedback for the user.

Maybe it's hard to understand, but for me it's logical:
an app called "CloseWhatsApp" does close WhatsApp ...
So maybe they should install WhatsApp on their testing devices before testing my app.

Really unprofessional from Nokia QA/Nokia Publish.

Probably you can show a note when there is no whatsapp installed and when its not running too to avoid this error. That 'might' satisfy the QA people (I dont know, just guessing here)

    Re: CloseWhatsApp Application

I would strongly suggest having a UI application, which has for example a button in which clicked will close Whatsapp, then users could re-run the app when needed. Also the app could have visible thing ilustrating whether the WhatsApp is not running.

that's an idea, I alread integrated "Error, WhatsApp doesn't run", now will try this.
Hopefully checking this doesn't need a second, it should happen instantly.

there are a lot of apps without UI in Store, e.g. QuickBrightness or Close All Apps or af few reboot apps.

Sure I could build a nice QtQuick UI but the app is just for closing whatsapp.
Like the apps I wrote above it has only one target and no real options.
