    WritableBitmapEx alternatives

Its a handy thing but the drawing primitives are limited give very poor outputs.

    what alternatives are there

In other news i seem to constantly fail to get Blit to work with resource based bitmaps. is that just me?

What do you want to do? You haven't described what your problems with WritableBitmapEx is and why it is inferior.
Unless we know what you are using it for, we can hardly give recommendations.

    Hello to_pe

good points, the issue i have is it is quite 'basic' in the way you can draw, and even the anti aliased versions are quite jaggy.
theres no brushes available - so you can only draw in single pixels, and no textures etc.

yep i know im going to have to dive into direct x!!

You might take a look at SharpDX ... find the RenderTarget class. Some nice drawing primitives there.

I'll have to ask you again what you want to do. Without it, I really cannot help you with your problem.
DirectX is powerful, but it is a complex beast and I am not sure if you are going to like it. "Basic" stuff like using brushes is actually rather complex mathematics and you'll need to learn about pixel shaders and alpha blending.

But again, I don't know what you want to do and it is hard for me to give you a concrete answer.
