Product ID differs from App ID

    Hi,

I've just seen that the product ID of my app in WMAppManifest.xml is not the same as the App ID shown in my Windows Phone Dev Center:
    - Product ID in WMAppManifest.xml: 940da123-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
    - App ID in Windows Phone Dev Center: 8c3fa321-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

The app has already been successfully published in the Windows Phone store. Is it a problem when the ID's are not identical? Do I have to resp. can I change the product ID in WMAppManifest.xml afterwards?

    Thanks for your help!

They're supposed to be different. The App ID is generated when the app is submitted to the Dev Center. This is normal, and you don't have to change anything.

Ah ok, thanks for your clarifications.

I was asking this question because I've got a little bit confused about the statement...
"[...]Change Product ID in WMAppManifest.xml file of your Windows Phone project to the App ID provided above.[...]"
    ...in the following article:
    http://developer.nokia.com/Community...indows_Phone_8

Obviously, this is not fully correct.

Just did a bit of research. Ordinarily you don't have to worry about the Product ID and App ID, but the official docs suggest you make this change when using in-app purchases. The reason being that when you're communicating with a server for the purchase (in either dev or production mode), you'll want the IDs to be the same.

The value inside WMAppManifest.xml is automatically set by the Store during submission. So the file deployed through the Store will be using the AppID provided by the Marketplace. For regular debugging you won't have to worry about this but when trying to debug an App that uses In-App purchases you will have to enter the correct value from Dev Center before deploying your Debug version onto the device. Otherwise your app will try to query the Store for In-App-Products using an ID that the Store does not know about (it only knows the one it assigned itself) and that will result in an exception.
