Change system volume in Windows Phone 8

Up until now I thought that changing the system volume from your app is impossible, until recently a new app called Quite Hours (http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/st...1-e55046ee5a2a) actually did just that in a very neat way.

Does anyone please know how to do that programmatically? I tried using the MediaElement or the xna MediaPlayer and the backgroundAudioPlayer and nothing worked. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Re: Change system volume in Windows Phone 8

There is an API that is listed as being supported by Windows Phone 8 but I didnt tested it.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...=vs.85%29.aspx

Until now I was under the impression that this was not possible, but reading this documentation I think that its at the very least change the app volume settings. Not sure about system dough.

    EDIT:

There seems to be some confusing information on this article

On Remarks we can see this:

Windows Phone 8: This API is supported.
But on Requirements we can see this:

    Minimum supported client
Windows Vista [desktop apps | Windows Store apps]

    Minimum supported server
Windows Server 2008 [desktop apps | Windows Store apps]
    Still worth the investigation.

Loukt is likely to be right - that thread links to the same developer on the Marketplace, even though it's a different App he linked to.

Basically he's using private APIs and managed to slip it by Microsoft's automated code verification. Let us know if Joao's approach works. I fear it won't and I can't really recommend to people to use private APIs as that might lead to trouble like the App being pulled once the code verification system gets updated to detect such hacks.

Thank you everyone for the help and thank you Loukt for the link Yes I guess this is the only way of doing it and I am going to test it soon! Yes it is risky but I mostly just wanted to get to the bottom of how this was possible thanks again!

I'm in the same boat - I desperately need the volume up feature on WP8 because I'm trying to use the audio as a communication channel (modem)

The only save route to do this is to tell the user that if he doesn't turn up the volume it might not work. Using such hacks can lead to problems with the App later on and might break it with the next update to the OS.
