Re: erase eprom and boot linux in old symbian

Symbian phones have protected boot loader and hacking it I believe considered a violated of the terms of service.
Symbian is NOT Linux, its core kernel may share some its trades but they are very different.
To be honest I don't see what your asking for every happening.... simply because those phones are too old by now (n95 came out in around 2007) if you want Linux on your phone then you can get Ubuntu on n950/n9 or jolla's sailfish and I think there might be also a rom for nexus devices.

Successful Symbian->Linux attempts are all using pre-S60 3rd edition devices, like the Nokia N70 you link, or the Siemens SX-1. It is not possible in the same way to do on the Nokia N95, as it is an S60 3rd FP1 device, and has a protected boot loader as Shai.i mentions.

If you want to play with other operating systems check the app DOSBox

About real OS modding: Hacking your own phone isn't illegal in the USA or EU, even if some companies claim something else. And if they don't give you your warrenty they have to prove your modifications caused the related issue(s).

However Symbian's ROM and bootloader are well protected, have a look at the eBook Symbian OS Internals, it's for free on Nokia Developer.
Hacking them is no simple task, their format isn't documented as e.g. ROFS and they must be protected e.g. by a hash with an unknown private key.
Other firmware parts got hacked in the past but the most Symbian hackers left the OS and I doubt the last few will manage to do that.

The main kernel services (ekern.exe, estart.exe and efile.exe) are in ROM so we can't modify them, the earliest point to inject something is after they are already running but you can't simply boot another OS out of Symbian.

Shortly said without of a leak or a full open source Symbian it's not possible.

thanks for all who shared your knowlege..

Yes they encrypted it using a private key...it may took years for decrypting...so i throw it ..its a sofuwear level problem

but in softwear level a hack reamins(ota)

[1.]Ota updating app can rewrite rom..so where can i get its source code..

    ################################
    ## or going much low level is good.##

I belive all softwears included in ROM.And when phone on..cpu start execute code from fixed address in ROM..

    So

[2] .What about Remove ROM chip from phone.. erasing it contents And add linux in it
    And soldering back to phone..

[1] The source code for actual devices has never been available. It is still copyrighted material, and in fact it is most likely a bit lost as well (considering that people who have developed Symbian firmware are certainly doing something totally different for years by now, and many of them are not with Nokia any more). And signatures are even less likely going to be released. If you mean source code of the PC-side tools (PC Suite and internal tools), that is not available either
[2] Yes, it is perfectly viable, assuming that there is a ROM module to be replaced, and you have a compatible Linux on a similar IC, which brings us to the 3rd point:
[3] No, the hardware is absolutely undocumented
