Hi all. Im trying to develop a phone text-editor that would support printing through a serial cable connection but obviously Im stumped on various grounds, and I really need help. First let me describe what the app could currently do.
-- It could read the various text file resources packaged with the MIDlet and display them on screen in a TextBox. From here a user could edit the text and save the changes for future loading, and the saving process makes use of various recordstores. Loading the data from the recordStore yields the same result. The current phones available for testing are Nokia 3510i and Nokia 7650 --
1.) The program should support a way for me to update the resources packaged with the MIDlets. Is tnere any way for me to do this? At first I thought of making an intermediate program(MIDlet) that would be the one to load the resources for the Editor MIDlet, but resources cannot be shared between MIDlets(or can they?). If there was a way to make MIDlets communicate then I think I can work around this problem, only that Im not sure if there is. What do you guys think?
2.) The program should also support a printing process that would allow the contents of the current TextBox to be printed to a local printer in which the phone is connected to the PC via serial cable on one COM port. My main problem here is that I have absolutely no idea as to how to go about setting up a connection/communication line between my PC and the celphone
through the serial cable. I've tried opening a serial connection via
Connector.open("comm:..."); protocol, but I don't know how to manage the connection then.
Is there a way to use HTTP or TCP/IP Connection over a serial cable, because if there is, then I could very well just use servlets to take care of the problem. Could anyone who would know how please write a snippet of the code for establishing some sort of connection between a phone and PC via serial cable using HTTP or TCP/IP or even the comm protocol? Or is there anything else that you guys could suggest?
One other thing: is there a way for MIDlets to interface DLLs, or some other thing that would simulate/yield a similar effect?
If you can help at anything at all, please reply. I really need your help.
