These information you can find in SDK's help:

The following steps detail the process required to create a digitally signed installation file.

Run the Certificate generator to create a private key and a self signed certificate containing its corresponding public key.

    makekeys -cert -dname "CN=Company OR=Company Inc CO=US" YourApp.key YourApp.cer

Run the Certificate Generator to create a certificate request.

    makekeys -req -dname "CN=Company OR=Company Inc CO=US" YourApp.key YourApp.cer YourAppreq.p10

Submit the certificate request to a Certification Authority and receive an authenticated digital certificate.

Specify the private key and digital certificate in the Installation File Generator package file.

    *"YourApp.key","YourApp.cer"

Run the Installation File Generator to create the authenticated installation file

    View certificate: makekeys -view YourApp.cer

Does anyone know of a Certificate Authority who will accept these generated requests? I have heard that it is only possible through the Nokia OK program.

    trouble in 2.0

when I try to execute makekeys even with example options, such as
    makekeys -cert -dname "CN=Symbian OU=Development OR=Symbian Ltd CO=GB" mykey.key mycert.cer
it says "Error: too many arguments for -cert command", and produces nothing.
What's the reason, does anybody know?

    Dealing with the command line.

I encounter the same problem on Windows XP, and I suspect the problem is in how Windows parses and passes along command-line parameters to the program.

Here's the solution I came up with that appears to work.

In the dname string, I separated the different parts with a semi-colon ( instead of with spaces.

    So the command line reads:

    makekeys -cert -dname "CN=Symbian;OU=Development;OR=Symbian Ltd CO=GB" mykey.key mycert.cer

Dealing with makeys program in command line

I have it same problem in Win XP.
    ---------
    makekeys -cert -dname "CN=Symbian OU=Development OR=Symbian Ltd CO=GB" mykey.key mycert.cer
it says "Error: too many arguments for -cert command", and produces nothing.
    ----------------

And it didn't work if I used semi-colons(

Here is solution. Go to folder "C:\Symbian\7.0s\Series60_v20\Epoc32\tools" or where is your makekeys.exe program.

    Cheers,
    Mike
