    Game, not program

    Hi

We are in the progress of making a game for the nokia 3510i and in that respect I have a, probably very simple, question that puzzles us. When we upload the JAR file to the phone it is automatically stored in the phone folder "Programs" and not in folder "Games". Why is that and how can we change it so our games ends up in the game folder?

    Best regards

Same issue on 6800 - possible bug?

I have a 6800 and am experiencing the same problem - installed games end up in the "Applications" folder/category.

If I install the game using the Application Installer app over IR and the following JAD (from a downloaded game, after tweaking the JAD to include the Nikia-MIDlet-Category tag), the game appears in the "Applications" folder and not in the "Games" folder.

In addition, a game purchased from Handango (Blackjack Buddy, item 79471 if interested) exhibited the same behavior when delivered over-the-air.

I have tried both "Game" and "Games" for the Nokia-MIDlet-Category tag.

    MIDlet-1: AsteroidZone, icons/App.png, asteroids.Game
    MIDlet-Jar-Size: 16048
    MIDlet-Jar-URL: asteroids.jar
    MIDlet-Name: Asteroids
    MIDlet-Vendor: Jean-Francois Doue
    MIDlet-Version: 1.4
    Nokia-MIDlet-Category: Game

Am I doing something wrong? Is there a setting in the 6800 that I need to tweak? What gives?

    Thanks for your help,

    JH

    Nokia-MIDlet-Category: Game
That's all you need. It only works when you download OTA, though, not by cable or Ir.
In addition, a game purchased from Handango (Blackjack Buddy, item 79471 if interested) exhibited the same behavior when delivered over-the-air.
Did this game have the game attribute in it's JAD?

    Downloaded Game's JAD

I wrote to the author of the game and no, he did not set the attribute :P

I saw on some other thread that the bug is in Nokia's Application Installer. Apparently, the Oxygen Phone Manager II (www.opm-2.com) does support the tag correctly when downloading over IR/USB. I have not verified this, however.

I hope Nokia fixes this bug in the next release!

    Does not work

    Hi
I tried putting the Nokia-MIDlet-Category: Game line into the JAD file but it did not work. The program is still installed in the programs category on the 3510i. I use OTA so I am very puzzled?!
    Best regards

    Now it works!

Our brilliant programmer ;o) now found the solution for the nokia 3510i to put JAR files into the "games" menu. Please note the follwing that we have found to work:

Put this sentence into JAD file:
    Nokia-MIDlet-Category: Games
Note it needs to be "Games" and not "Game" and cases should be exactly as written.

Download OTA through the games menu in the phone. If you download from other menu in the phone it does not work. (strange!)

I hope this can help others struggling with the same problem.

    Sorry!
I just copy form an official source: http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/1,,1...,00.html#3510i

Is "Games" for all devices, that support this attribute?

    Hi

We are only working with the 3510i right now, so I am not sure about other phones. Sorry. Thanks for your help.
