    Receiving CBS (Cell Broadcast Service) Messages with Java

    I'm trying to receive CBS messages from a MIDlet using the WMA API on a series 60 device.

    According to the API Doc I was using:
    Code:
    conn=(MessageConnection) Connector.open("cbs://:123");
    conn.setMessageListener(this);
    To receive messages on Channel 123.
    However, I get a ConnectionNotFound exception in the Emulator, suggesting that the cbs protocol isn't supported.

    But if I use "cbs://123" the MessageConnection is created without problems.

    Now my question: is "cbs://123" the correct url, even if the WMA Doc says its wrong, is the cbs MessageConnection supported at all on Nokia Series 60 devices, or is it a problem with my emulator setup?

    Hello Entropy,

    As far as I know, and I have investigated this issue quite a lot, no Nokia phone supports CBS today.

    You are right about the fact that it is defined in JSR-120, but unfortunately, it is only an appendix, so it is not required by the standard.

    Anyway, I will be very happy to hear that I'm wrong

    Thanks for the answer, I guess I'll have to use the C++ API then

    You are welcome.
    Regarding implementing in C++, I assume you are talking about Symbian. I'm not sure if it is possible to listen to CBS either with Symbian

    Re: Receiving CBS (Cell Broadcast Service) Messages with Java

    Hi,

    Even i am trying to do the same thing but not able to do that. Does nokia devices support CBS messages via j2me or not? Is it necessary that the midlet should be signed for this purpose.

    Reply if anyone knows anything about it.

    Thanks in advance
    Sunil
