    Running as an service

    Hei there

I would like to ask, if you can get Java running as an service on the mobile device. Like the Java program is running in the background polling a server and if gets a packet that it can handle, then it weaks up and ask the user what to do with it.

Can i do that, with the phone on the marked and where do i look for futere information about this.... ?

This is probably one most commonly asked question when people first sign up to this forum and never get an answer to

I have't seen a definite solid answer to this, but this is what I managed to gather at this point.

If you are coding for MIDP 2.0 devices, you have the Push Registry, which can activate your MIDlet based on timer or inbound connection. So, you could technically have your MIDlet "wake up" in certain time intervals, and do its thing.

If you are coding for MIDP 1.0, then it's not at all possible.

    Hei

I also understod, that if you are using the Series 60, you will could bring back a task to sleep, and wake it up again afterwoods.

But i am in the middel of testing the stuff...

But thanks again for you answer.

    D!
