    Hello,

Currently Nokia 9290 Communicator is the only Java phone available officially in USA. As others said, Europe/Asia model 6310i works in USA on GSM1900 band as do the forthcoming color models Nokia 6610 and 7210.

pbergius is right today the hell expensive Nokia 9290 Communicator is the only Java phone available officially in USA FROM NOKIA.
You can buy 6310i on eBay for $300 and can use it on Cingular, AT&T and VoiceStream networks. However, none of them are willing to provision your account for GPRS , but there are some tricks that may work for a 6310i as well (see http://navasgrp.home.att.net/tech/cingular/gprs_setup.htm)
The real problem is to find a midlet-enabled WAP gateway.
I suppose you're a developer and you'd like to test your midlets on various devices, then here's a list of Java phones in the US:
    - RIM BlackBerry 8510 from VoiceStream,
    - Motorola IDEN phones (i95cl, i85s, i80s, i90c, etc) from Nextel (their Java support is much more powerful than Nokia's),
    - SprintPCS PalmOS phones: Samsung SPH-I300, Kyocera 6035

    Hello,

You don't need WAP gateway for 6310i as you can deploy midlets directly from your PC to the phone using Nokia RS-232 Adapter Cable DLR-3P, infrared (if you have a laptop) or bluetooth (I know this might be a long shot). You need WAP gateway only for distributing the midlets for over-the-air deployment to your customers.

Nokia 9290 Communicator has a serial cable and infrared connections.
