Virtual Com Ports from Digianswer software.

I think, after reading some news on this group, that THE BIG problem is that 3rd Bluetooth devices have Vcoms not compatible (inteface) with Digianswer Bluetooth software. I dont know if it is possible but somebody (my skills are not so good) could write 'bridge' between standard VCom (Microsoft standard) and VCom made by Digianswer. Of course we need to have access for documentation of Digianswer Vcom but mabye some body has it. If 3rd Bluetooth software with their own VCom ports are Microsoft standard it will work.

Example how it should work :-)
    1. Nokia PC Suite connect to Dummy Digianswer VCom
    2. Dummy VCom will connect to 3rd Party Vcom
    3. Vcom will open connection via 3rd Bluetooth software to our Nokia phone
    4. Finally we will be able to use PC Nokia Suite with our mobile phone

    Please post any comments.
    Marek Suski

    PS.
I thinks when mobile phone and computer are connecting via bluetooth thera re doing it by creating (starting) on both sides Client serial (mobile) and Host serial (computer) service.

RE: Virtual Com Ports from Digianswer software.

Yeah, I had the same idea - haven't got time to do anything at about it at the moment so was hoping that Nokia would just come up with a solution, was more annoyed than anything that they hadn't already.

When I try and connect using the vcom port, my mob establishes the bluetooth serial link and drops it after attempting to detect the phone becuase I assume it doesn't recognise the device becuase the interface isn't quite what it is expecting - it thinks it's using a a data cable which probably corsses over connections.

I agree with mareksuski - a solution would be to write a bridge connection, may look into it next few weeks - will let you know if I get anywhere. I was hoping that maybe Nokia could just add an option for plain serial link in their connection manager, then we wouldn't need to mess around at all - that would be a much better solution if they can't manage to get away from their DTL-4 bluetooth stack as all bluetooth provide vcoms.

    Thanks mareksuski

RE: Virtual Com Ports from Digianswer software.

I haven't had a chance to investigate much further but I found a tool that may be helpful - on

    http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/portmon.shtml

a program that worked in a similar way may be easier than writing a vcom driver, I don't know how difficult that is...

anyway, for interest below is a copy of the portmonitor log for connection with my 6310i through the bluetooth vcom which fails to recognise the phone - it looks like it's failing on a AT*NOKIAFBUS command, whatever that is! but it looks as though the comms through the port is not garbled so I am assuming that no interface is needed and it is just the commands that are not being recognised by the phone, am going to play with hyperterminal now.

If someone that has a data cable could post a log that would be great
