    Feature packs.

    Hello.
It is said in Nokia relleases that FP will support QWERTY keyboard and all that. But I did not find any information concerning the network support. Will feature packed smartphones work in 3G or 2.5G? Can anybody explain it to me?
And is it possible to use two FP or some of their features on the one phone simultaneosly?
    Thank you.

If I'm not mistaken the first phone that utilizes FP2 is Nokia 6630 and it is the very first 3G phone based on S60...

The information I remember about FPs are:

    Feature pack 1:
    - Instant Messaging
    - Presence
    - EDGE
    - new audio codecs

Feature pack 2 (based on Symbian OS v8.0):
    - WCDMA !!!
    - videotelephony
    - 3D graphics
    - OMA DRM

yeah and of course Feature pack 3:

    - qwerty support
    - SVG in UI (very needed scalable user interface)

but I guess that it will take some time (a year??) before we see this...

    Thank you.
My question was not quite correct.
Actually I was asking will FP3 support 2.5G or 3G networks.
And still I don't understand is it possible to use some features of two different FPs in the one phone.

I don't know it either, but I really hope that phones with higher feature packs will also support all the lower ones... So if you have on the phone FP3, it will also have features from FP1+2...

    But maybe I'm mistaken...

There is no meaning to remove features supported already by the platform... (except to close a security risk, e.g. remove bluetooth support nowadays :)) )

It is hard to predict of the feature compatibility of the phone by the platform. In the past, Nokia 7650 based on S60 v0.9 supported the onboard camera, meanwhile S60 v1.2 based N-Gage do not utilitise this feature. Similar with the infrared support on S60.
However these gaming Symbian SDKs are not part of the Forum Nokia site.

Seems the target market of the phone could make differences, e.g. in support of 2.5G or 3G. Maybe the changes in Symbian OS also effect the FPs.
