Re: WAP and WIFI ? confused

Wi-Fi/WLAN is a wireless short-range radio technology to be used instead of a wired local area network (WLAN = Wireless Local Area Network).

In the contect of mobile networks WAP is an application protocol over long-range cellular radio technology. (WAP = Wireless Application Protocol)

    No relation to Wi-Fi/WLAN.

Then there is, indeed, also WAP as Wireless Access Point, a physical device that implements WLAN/Wi-Fi to which a WLAN/Wi-Fi equipped device (phone, PC, set-top-box, DVR, whatever) can connect to.

WAP(Wireless Application Protocol) is an open international standard for application layer network communications in a wireless communication environment. Its main use is to enable access to the Internet (HTTP) from a mobile phone or PDA.
