    WAP gateways effecting MIDlet

How does the use of a WAP gateway on the carrier network affect my midlet when I'm sending and receiving data, streaming, or just have my midlet available for OTA download?

    RE: WAP gateways effecting MIDlet

    OSXDev,

The Wap gateway will sometimes be configured for 30K packages,
on some gateways this size is configurable, Nokia's Wap GW I know.
Some like docomo in Japan limit the size of download packages to 10k.
When you code streaming data keep that in mind.

    Thanks

The WAP GW may cause problems in cases where you retrieve content, for which the GW has an encoding scheme, like WML or HTML. At least the Nokia Active server 2.0 will convert and encode the content into Binary WML if the MIME type matches any enabled filter, even though the Accept header is correctly set to "*/*" by the phone to indicate that it accepts any content directly.
If you have access to the network based content server, one workaround is to change the Content-Type of the content to something the GW does not recognize.
