    Re: Feature wishlist

    There is now a Py2SIS that works on free OS's. Take a look at:

    http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...ad.php?t=66840

    You can use the Series 60 C++ SDK on Linux with the instructions on http://www.koeniglich.de/symbian_sdk_on_unix.html but unfortunately the emulator doesn't work, so this is of interest just for extension developers.

    Drawable.Text(..) should return the boundary box of the text drawn.
    (or some other ways to know that the text is not drawn off-screen).

    This lack of support is slowing the developpement process by a huge factor !
    I agree, until this is solved you can nevertheless use/modify e.g. the script below to package and ship scripts to a device in packages, works like this:

    1) Copy the script to the folder where you have the test scripts
    2) In this folder:
    Code:
         python pkg_maker.py basic
    3) and
    Code:
         makesis -v basic.pkg
    4) Install the end result, "basic.SIS" to the device

    The source code for "makesis" is released (see http://www.symbian.com/developer/dow...s.html#makesis) so you could use this on other platforms besides Windows as well. Yes, the script is crude (e.g. hardcoded UID/paths and name of the scripts) and would need some more tuning, feel free to improve it! The open version for "py2sis" published in this thread http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...ad.php?t=66840 should help you also.

    Code:
    ###################
    # Make a pkg file of all the "test_x.py" files in a directory
    #
    # Example usage:
    # 1) Copy the script to the folder where you have the test scripts
    #   2) In this folder:
    #       python pkg_maker.py basic
    #   3) and
    #       makesis -v basic.pkg
    # 4) Install the end result, "basic.SIS" to the device
    #
    ###################

    TEST_PREFIX =   "test_"
    PY_EXTENSION =  ".py"
    PKG_EXTENSION = ".pkg"
    NEW_LINE    =   "\n"
    PHONE_DIR   =   '-"C:\Amaretto_tests\scripts'
    HEADER      =   """;

    ;

    """

    import os, sys

    if __name__ == '__main__':

        fileName = sys.argv[1]
        f = open(fileName + PKG_EXTENSION, "w")

        f.write(HEADER);

        l = os.listdir(".")
        for test in l:
            if not (test.startswith(TEST_PREFIX) and test.endswith(PY_EXTENSION)):
                continue
            f.write('"' + test + '"' + "\t\t" + PHONE_DIR + "\\" + test + '"' + NEW_LINE)

        f.close()

    Cool Re: Feature wishlist

    It would be nice to have alot more development with Sound. first of all it would be great to have something like a volume control so that everything doesn't come in 100%. then sound offset would be good too.

    cheers all nors75u

    Possibility to record video would IMHO be a valid request, when Nokia has a clear strategy to focus on imaging applications too.

    Feature request: it should be possible to define automaticly the access point name for internet connectivity.

    This was discussed here before: http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...t=access+point

    There was an argument that user should be notified for actions that might cost money. But I think this is bit too conservative. We are consenting adults after all. I think people running python scripts can assess this risk when they choose to install application that has this feature.

    In any case, if one wishes he/she can simply implement C++ wrapper to get around this limitation. Which is what I'm about to do next =)

    Read only Text UI control

    For now text UI control can't be made read-only.

    Ability to create a single SIS, that installs BOTH your script and the Python itself.
    Somehow it is always difficult to request from users to install the Python themselves

    Note that there are multiple posts in this forum (even in this thread) in how to create a package (SIS-file) which contains the interpreter and other needed files. For really advanced usage, have a look at requisite components, search Series 60 SDK with keyword "pkg".

    But yes, this feature could be included in "py2sis" also.

    Please see "file server" in 1.2 release, this might be of use to you. Standard installation path for this software is "C:\Nokia\Tools\Python_for_Series_60\examples\fileserver". Start with the "README.txt".

    Not very important, but the following would text layout funcs would be nice:
    - estimating how much pixels given text would take
    - text wrapping

    These would make working with Image.text() more plesent.

    Re: Feature wishlist

    Hi

    With 1.2 build on N-Gages, python breaks down if you try to call an appuifw function with plain strings (non-unicode). I know that that's not supported, but it's not a mortal sin either it would be nice if this does not kill the interpreter (better yet, if appuifw functions could accept non-unicode strings).
