Nokia technical support specialists please answer this question ASSP

We have purchased a Code Signing Certificate for the purpose of just sending SMS messages without prompting the user. I have signed my MIDLet application (J2ME) by that certificate and installed it on Nokia 6230 device so now I can get rid of all other restriction but cannot from messaging restriction. I can access network without that prompt but cannot send SMS message without that prompt (in other words, All other function groups than Messaging may be set to "Always allowed", while the Messaging protection domain can only be set to "Ask every time" or "Not allowed").

Please help or advice to me why signed MIDLet Ask every time to user permission (popup up opened to confirmation of sending) when we send SMS message?

    Midlet signing.

I'm in need of the same feature in my midlet, so I'm very interested in hearing the answer to this question too.

I've asked two Java Verified firms about this (Relq and CapGemini) and they both assured me that this was indeed possible once the midlet was signed.

I was also assured that once signed a midlet can autostart without user interaction (activated by a sms). Do you have this feature in your midlet, or do you know if this is possible?

    Certificate missing in 6230

Have you seen the following document?
    http://americas.forum.nokia.com/main...ml&fileID=7897

It seems that the 6230 (among others) is missing the root certificate for certification.

That Relq and CapGemini assured me that the midlet would function on a 6230 is a bit troubling.

Signing a midlet on Nokia 6600 or 6630

Hi, i read about your problem. Did you solve it ?

    This is mine :
I signed a midlet with a code signing certificate provided by Thawte. I signed my midlet with NDS2.2. I works on NDS emulator but when i try to download it throug OTA from my server to Nokia 6600 or 6630, i get "security error, installation failed" message.

Could you please tell me how did you succeed to install a signed midlet into a nokia phone ? by OTA ? bluetooth ?, cable ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Marc from Paris, France.

Thanks for that very very fast answer !
I have tested my signed midlet on a V800 SonyEricsson phone and evrything is ok, so i think you're right.

It seems a lot more than the 3 handsets referenced in the "Technical Note: Missing Root Certificates For Java Verified" document published last week by nokia, are missing root certificates. I have tested a Nokia 6630 and the very new 6680 and it doesn't work neither.

Does a nokia person could tell about that ?

Marc from SFR, french mobile operator (Vodafone partner).

I tested my MIDLet on a Nokia 6230 work everything is fine except sending SMS messages without prompting the user

    >>are missing root certificates?
No, it works fine for VeriSign certificate.

    >>Does a nokia person could tell about that?
No, but the VeriSign technical support people mention it.

I have tested a Nokia 6600 but it doesn't work because firmware old version (if you want to check your handset firmware enter *#0000# )

Could you please tell me how did you succeed to send SMS message without prompting the user? I did not find the solution yet.

I also have this same error (Installation security error. Unable to install.) on my Nokia 6630.

This is a serious pain in the a$$. Now I'm going to have to distribute TWO versions of my midlet... one that's signed and one that isn't (and thus keeps prompting the user)

    Hi Mani,

I have come across a similar problem and I wanted to update my 6680 phone firmware. I wonder if you know how firmware upgrade can be done.

    Thanks,

Re: Nokia technical support specialists please answer this question ASSP

The original question was why a trusted 3rd party midlet can't send SMS without the confirm dialog.

It's because it is specified this way for the trusted 3rd party protection domain.
You can't send an SMS without confirmation.
