    capture://video on 6260

    Hi,

    I'm trying to write a J2ME app that can capture snapshots using the phone's camera. When I try my application on a 6600 it works, but the line:

    Player p = Manager.createPlayer("capture://video");

    throws a MediaException, with error message "Symbian OS error: -1" (Error -1 is KErrNotFound) on my 6260.

    Is camera capture supposed to be supported on the 6260? And if it is, does anyone know why it might not be working for me? (Do I have to upgrade my firmware? How do I check this?)

    Thanks,
    David

    Has anybody else managed to capture a video snapshot on a 6260?

    Hi,

    I'm getting the same error.

    The 6260 has Series60 platform and implements the MMAPI, so you'd expect that getting snapshots should work.

    Indeed,
    Code:
    Manager.createPlayer("capture://video");
    gives error: -1.

    And, same problem here, on a 6600 (firmware 3.42.1 and 5.27.0) the application works, but on a 6260 (firmware 3.0436.0) it doesn't.

    Did you find out anything new on this matter?

    Thanks for your reply.

    Unfortunately it looks like camera capture is unavailable on at least this firmware version (I have the same)

    Can someone from Nokia confirm if this is the case with all firmware versions in 6260?

    I gave up. I guess I'll wait for a firmware version which has this bug fixed.

    Nokia,... why do you give us so much frustration.

    So, 6260, nice, but no-go.

    Back to the 6600. Hmm, also a no-go. Creating snapshots with a bit of quality must be done with a resolution lower than 176x132. (O man, that's way too small for a photo)

    Well, let's try the 7610 then. Erm, no good, it has buggy software, my midlet will crash at random.

    6230? No sir, access to camera won't work.

    What will work?...

    I'm having the same problem with the 6260. And the 6600 snapshots are something like 160x120.

    Feeling a bit upset about that ...

    frustrating. Printing out System.getProperty("supports.video.capture") on 6260 gives true though; but I indeed got stuck with a MediaException. Blocks a lot of nice applications on this phone :-(

    Hello.
    It's just an idea, not necessarily a good one, but does it still throw an exception when specifying an encoding ?
    Cheers

    HI I tried an application for capturing video in 6600.
    It showed Recorder is Null.
    But i can record the audio separately.
    Is there is any supporting components should i install to my mobile phone.

    My phones firmware version is 5.27

    Can you help me how to clear this problem.
    You have stated above that you have tested some application in 6600.
    Can you please send me the Details about that application.
    If possible source code or the details where i can get that java code.

    Regards
    S.Hemanand

    Problem

    Hi i tried to make a checkup, is video capture supported? on fone. The application may be used in both case , but some options will be hide.
    Code

    String supports = System.getProperty("supports.video.capture");
    if (supports != null && supports.equals("true"))
    {
    try
    {
    player = Manager.createPlayer("capture://video");
    {
    player.realize();
    vc = (VideoControl) player.getControl("VideoControl");
    if (vc != null)
    {
    vc.initDisplayMode(vc.USE_DIRECT_VIDEO, VisageMIDlet. instance.WC); //
    vc.setVisible(true);
    player.start();
    }
    }
    }
    catch (MediaException me)
    {
    if (player != null)
    {
    player.close();
    player = null;
    }
    }
    catch (IOException ioe)
    {
    if (player != null)
    {
    player.close();
    player = null;
    }
    }

    On 3650 - work good.

    On N-GAGE in this string:
    -----------------------------------------
    player = Manager.createPlayer("capture://video");
    ----------------------------------------
    aap - shat down with alert
    Application
    error
    Exiting

    and i can t make anything.

    String supports = System.getProperty("supports.video.capture");

    return "true" notwithstanding N-GAGE dose not have camera.
    May be you knew anothe way tu check "supports.video.capture"
    tnx

    I also experience the same problem in my 6260. Actually there is a sample code on
    http://developers.sun.com/techtopics...icles/picture/

    Please try if you can run it on 6260. I have test it and it throws Symbian OS Error -1 again.

    Or if you have any successful applications on the camera using J2ME, please share your code.

    Re: capture://video on 6260

    Because the 6260 is running CLDC 1.0, I do not believe it will support capture://video. From what I understand you need CLDC 1.1

    Re: capture://video on 6260

    My original 6260 was stolen ages ago. When I got a replacement, the replacement camera capture worked. So looks like at least some versions work. The origin of my working model is a black one from America. The one didn't work is a silver one from Australia.
