Is there an alternative to jar.exe ?

Can someone surgest a alternative to jar.exe (i.e. a command line program that isn't part of the java sdk).

Doesn't have to be very good, just has to run on its own, with no other files (jar.exe checks the registery for the java version and is actually tied to the java install).

    Cheers

well zip.exe (the cygwin version) seems to work fine .. so good.

note: if you do this, you have to create META-INF\MANIFEST.MF yourself (which is to say you have to create the META-INF folder as it won't be created automatically).

Watch out using zippers other than JAR... some phone's won't like highly compressed JARs made with something like 7Zip, for example.

Also, I believe that the Java Verified submission system will unzip and re-zip your JAR as an automated process. It will re-zip it with the standard JAR utility. So if you've used another zipper to get more compression, your application may expand when re-zipped with JAR, and you'll then fail for having a JAR that's too big.
