Call another application & 'Push Registry' in Symbian C++

    Hello,

    Thanks in advance.
We were wondering if it is possible to implement a similar mechanism in a Symbian C++ application to the used in the java MIDP Push Registry, that is, the Symbian application can wake up when a notification is received.
In case that it is not possible, could a MIDP application implementing Push Registry wake up a Symbian application, i.e. using a TCP connection or another way ?
Can a Symbian application call and open another Symbian application?

    Regards,
    Ignacio

    Hello

    Hi Ignacio,

Have a look to BIOMessage. Also there is an example called RemoteCam wich uses such behaviour.

This way your aplication can be running on background and wait for an incoming message (SMS).

    I hope it helps

    Bye

    Hi Ignacio,

Yes, it's also possible. Have a look to RApaLsSession and search this forum.
There is an example about how to launch web browser that might help you.

    Bye

    Hi Ignacio,

    ... try: http://www.midpjni.com/

Initiation of the Push Registry is really easy.
    (any application launching a Midlet)

IPC from any process to another via localhost-loopback
is described for C++ to Java and back.

In theory you could have any of these talking to each other:
    - C++ (even to another C++ program)
    - Java
    - OPL
    - Python
    etc... - any combination

Midlets can be invoked by the Push Registry.
C++ programs cannot be launched from a Midlet AFAIK.

However you're saying "C++ waking up":
A C++ program can remain in the background
    (e.g. an EXE/daemon + Recognizer)
and "wake up", due to IPC from Java.

Re: Call another application & 'Push Registry' in Symbian C++

    Hi,

I want to implement following as described by you -
A C++ program can remain in the background (e.g. an EXE/daemon + Recognizer) and "wake up", due to IPC from Java.

I did go through the link http://www.midpjni.com/ however was not able to understand how exactly to implement it. Is there any link where i can get a sample code or some more documentation?

    Thanks in advance
