Lightbulb Connect the emulator to internet (This may help you)

Hi i was trying to connect my emulator to the internet and i found a way to do it. (by reading lots of forums and documents)

Here is the way to do it.............................

    1. Install Microsoft LoopBack Adapter.( Select from list in installing new device [network adapters ]) Lets Call It !! MLBA !!
(add new hardware will be used to do that....... new network adapter will be choosen)

    2. Go to the properties of Inet connection on the last page make it shared for LAN of MLBA (firewalled or not doesnt matter)
After You do this Windows will automaticly assign ip address for MLBA and will ask you to not change it. (maybe windows will not ask anything)

3-Run cmd ipconfig and see what ip and subnet mask has MLBA remember it!
for example lets assume it will be:
    ip : 192.168.0.1
    subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

    4. Goto the ""Start > Programs > Series 60 Developer Tools > SDK 2.1 for Symbian OS Supporting Microsoft Visual C++ .NET> Tools > Ethernet Support Configuration""

Check network adapter in promisicuous mode

select use the following ip address

in the field ip type: 192.168.0.2
    in the field mask: 255.255.255.0
in the field Gateway!!!! : 192.168.0.1

!!!!(The trick is to use in Gateway ip of your MLBA ) !!!!

type any DNS but it must be working DNS.

    proxy is not needed.

And after all, select button "Adapters" and choose your MLBA.
(it will ask the adapter which you will use in the command prompt)

So after all this manipulations all must be working.

Use services or the famous httpexample to test your emulator.....

if any question i will try to answer .....

    Ethernet Connection

    hi Nierdre,

since last three days (even more) I have been trying to configure my emulator for internet access. I have downloaded Ethernet Plug-in for series60 from forum Nokia, configured it, installed it. And after all I was able to access internet through emulator (WINS UDEB/UREL). But whenever I run my application which simple accessing "http://www.google.com", it returns "Error -1" or KErrNotFound.

I have tried to run HTTP Example from dowloaded from forum Nokia. But result is same (KErrNotFound) in all cases.

I am using Series60_V20 (its SDK help 100% lacking in emulator configuration) on Windows XP and using Borland C++.

Plz help me to solve the issue.

    thanks in advance,

i tried it but it didn't work

    Nierdre,

I tried doing what you said, but it didn't work for me. I installed the new adapter (MSLB), and I put its ip address (169.254.25.129) in the ethernet settings page as the gateway, like you said. I put 169.254.25.130 as the IP. Then I selected the adapter. But when I ran the program (services) it said, "No gateway - 25502".

    I am using CodeWarrior.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Matt

Talking Re: Connect the emulator to internet (This may help you)

OK I tried the MS Loopback thing again, and this time it worked! Although, I was only able to connect to a web server on my local machine. I could not connect out to the internet. All was not in vain, however, as I configured a proxy server to handle the connections. This is described in more detail in my most here: http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...ad.php?t=65684.

Well I think the reason I have had these problems to begin with is that I am on a cable modem. I don't have a router on my network. I think a better solution in general is to get a router, since then you can assign a valid static IP, although I haven't tried it myself. I assume most people have a router.

And for someone for whom it might be difficult to find how to install MS loopback adapter, here are some useful links:
