    3230, The MP3 Stereo Joke

It's so obvious that this is just a software restriction put in place by Nokia.
And this to be able to launch a "new" model later which "magically" has Stereo.

I just traded in a fully functional 6230 for this piece of sh*t.
And the "strange" thing was that my over one year old phone had no problems at all with stereo mp3's (or radio for that matter).

Stereo is really not a new thing (not even for a mobile phone), and to trick customers with the description: "Stereo FM Player and MP3 Player" is just so low.
If it is Mono, then just write it!

Always had great respect for Nokia and their products, but this is a low level water mark.
Even people in Nokia Shops are unaware of this "scam" marketing!
Unfortunatly I live in a country where the customers don't have any rights, so I can't go back to my reseller.

    So, to my question:
    - When is the new firmware going to be released that enables stereo sound?

    Rgds.

It says "Stereo FM radio" and "and MP3 player". That doesn't mean that the MP3 player is stereo (and it isn't). It could and probably should be more clearly worded.

A firmware update can't fix this, because it is a hardware thing.

    Thanks for your response.

Yes, it should definitely be more clearer.
But then again, if it were; me (and many others) would have bought it.

Do you happen to have the source (url) to the alleged statement of the “missing hardware”?

… still marveling to the fact that a newer phone doesn’t have the features that the Flintstones had …

    Hi!

How could it be a hardware thing?
Since fm is stereo that means, 3230 has a stereo o/p stage.

So we should be able to enable stereo o/p in it?

FM radio stereo output is handled by dedicated radio chip & circuitry (DAC & whatever) and independently of the phone software (Symbian & Series 60) side that goes out a different route entirely.
