Locator for Capture on 6680 - MMAPI

    Hi all,

What is the media locator url for video capture on 6680 ? capture://video does not work. Since phone has two cameras, url 's maybe different. Or is it a bug ???

    Hi

I'm almost sure this is a bug. Have struggled with this for a week now, but I've not been able to use the camera with mmapi.
My app works great on SE K700. I'm going to test with nokia 6630 next week.

The Manager.createPlayer("capture://video"); throws a MediaException with Symbian OS error -5, ("The operation requested is not supported"). But the System.getProperty("supports.video.capture") returns true. The 6680 DOES support this feature, but I can't figure out how to implement this properly.

My conclusion after a lot of testing (and cursing) is:
    1. It's a bug
    2. The url has changed to a unknown adress..

    Regards
    Håvard

    Hi Håvard,

    Thank you for your answer.

I dont even want to think that it is a bug, this is a simple feature. I think url has been changed since the phone has two cameras.

Any help from Nokia Support is really welcomed...

Dont get me wrong, but I could not understand why we could not find any answer for such a basic question neither on the official forum nor on the documents, or do I miss something ??

    I don't have a 6680 at hand but try what Manager.getSupportedProtocols() returns.

    Rantalah,

To answer your question I have written a MIDlet that retrieves all supported content types, and for each content type retrieves the supported protocol. This is what is returned (I am only listing the Video content types):

    VIDEO/MP4
    - http
    - https
    - file

    VIDEO/MPEG4
    - http
    - https
    - file

    VIDEO/3GPP
    - http
    - https
    - file
    - capture

When calling Manager.getSupportedProtocols() the following list is returned:

    - http
    - https
    - file
    - device
    - capture

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for this link!

Yesterday I received a user report about similar problems starting my camera based midlet on the Nokia 6680,
and I have suggested he try the reformat "fix" to see if that helps.

Does the same phone bug appear on the Nokia 6681 and 6682?

    Hi hrdonka,

The situation with the Nokia 6230 is different: it has
been known for some time that it just does not support
image capture by Java MIDlets, although this is poorly
    documented, if at all.

With the Nokia 6680, image capture by Java MIDlets ought
to have worked as far as we currently know, and there
seems to be a sort of crude "fix" to make it work.

    6230, 6230i

    Hi Meijerpb,
Thank you very much for your reply. I am very disappointed by Nokia. Is this the same for 6230i and 6230? Do you have any reference to Nokia official document describing this?

    Hi hrdonka,

I have not found Nokia documents that in sufficient detail
describe device limitations, but a very useful resource is

    http://www.club-java.com/TastePhone/MIDP.jsp

where you can test or look for "Supports Video Capture: true"
or "MMA can take photos Yes". The above site was having server
problems when I tried it today, but the Google cache was at

    http://216.239.59.104/search?q=cache...jsp+&hl=en</a>

confirming that both the Nokia 6230 and 6230i do not support
image capture by Java MIDlets, but the Nokia 6680 is listed
    as "Supports Video Capture: true".
