Critical design issue in Nokia's "OMA Device Management DDF For E-Mail" design

    Hello everyone,

I have read the document, "OMA Device Management DDF For E-Mail v1.1" from the following URL,

    http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n..._v1_1.zip.html

I think there is a critical design issue in this document. The issue is that, device management protocol (OMA DM) is used to do device configuration, software update, etc. I think it is not convenient to management email from device to server. So, I think using SyncML DS is better than that. I can not see any benefits of using OMA DM to deal with emails.

Does anyone have the same points or different points?

    thanks in advance,
    George

    Hi,

The OMA-DM protocol is enough generic to provide emails management. You can test the "OMA Device Management DDF For E-Mail" with this OMA-DM simulator: http://www.eclipse.org/koneki/simulators/omadm/.
But, I think you're right, the OMA-DS protocol which defined here: http://www.openmobilealliance.org/Te...ds_v1_2_2.aspx is more appropriate to do it.

    Pierrick.
