Angry nbf file + pc suite + no phone

    Hi!

All that is left om my old nokia phone is a backup in the nbf format. It seems I cannot restore the backup without the phone using pc suite . Surely there must be some other way to at least browse the content of the backup, such as an nbf reader?

    Thanx for any help, Niklas.

In which phone model did you make the backup? Is it the same model or same phone you want to restore the file to?

For security reasons (as far as I know) it is not possible to view the content of the backup file with any program. If you try to open it the file will be corrupted.

the nbf backup belongs to a Nokia 6610. right now i dont have a phone (and once i get a phone it might not be a nokia).

why do you have to have a phone in order to read/restore the backup with pc suite? why isnt the restore a two stage process; backup2pcsuite and possibly pcsuite2phone. anyway there has to be some piece of software out there that can read an nbf file. any idea how to proceed?

    br niklas.

The backup of the file needs a phone to be restored to. It can´t be restored or read by any other program then a Nokia device, as far as I know (nbf = Nokia Backup File)

If you are making a backup you can restore the file to another Nokia phone, or as you say "pcsuite2phone".

I don´t know if anyone has written a program to read the content of the .nbf file, but since is packed it has to be restored somewhere before you can access the content of the file.

Maybe you should send some feedback to Nokia? I think the mailadress is; idea@nokia.com but I am not sure. Can someone from Nokia confirm maybe?

    Solution that worked for me:

Had .nbf (not .nfb) backup file from a Nokia 3120 Classic, which was lost.
Nokia PC Suite didn't work (as I didn't have the same model phone to restore to).
    NOKI Software didn't work.
    NTI Backup Now didn't work.

    But the following did work:

    Rename the .nbf to .zip
Unpack it and away you go. It provided my contacts as v-cards.
I went into the unpacked folder to:
    backup000/predefhiddenfolder/backup/WIP/32/contacts
And all my v-cards were waiting.
Selected them all and opened with Mac Address Book. Done.

If it's not that simple for you, you may need NOKI software AFTER unpacking the zip.

Hope this saves people them time it took me to find...
