Cool N70 http connection goes boom

    Hi all,

We're seeing a 'slight' "issue" with our N70 on Vodafone in the UK.

Basically it can open a http connection to an IP address ok (eg http://192.168.0.1/) but putting in our servers name (eg http://www.servername.com/) seems to make the application quit instantly without any error messages.

Obviously this is a bit hard to debug....anyone got any ideas or workarounds?

    cheers
    Danack

Trace the server output and see if there's a difference (like bad/invalid or at least different HTTP headers or other kind of content) returned by the server when calling it.

You could just use a PC and, e.g., a simple Perl script to send the HTTP request and to capture and display what the server responses are.

Once you have the differences in responses figure out, you can begin experimenting/narrowing things down.

As you didn't post the real IP address and server name, it is hard for anyone else to check out if they can spot the differences.

Check if the IP address is reall for the server name, or if it is done using host headers (where the same IP address can be reused for many web sites).

Look especially for invalid/non-standard HTTP headers (like negative content-length & such).

    Thanks for the reply.

It appears to me that the connection doesn't reach the server....judging by the speed at which the application quits I doubt there was even time for it to leave the phone completely.

Same application and server works reliably on other phones/emulators etc.

    >Check if the IP address is reall for the server name, or if it is done using host headers

It's a real server - the only slightly unusual thing is that we don't access the server through 'www', we do it through partners.ourserver.com.

    >(like bad/invalid or at least different HTTP headers or other kind of content)

Ah...I will investigate whether it's trying to send too many headers on the request from the phone that's causing the problem...
