VS 2003 Final Beta with Carbide 2.0

Hi all developers working with VS 2003 Final Beta

As we know, that MS has delivered prerelease version of VS 2003 for many
    hobbyists.

So, if you want to use VS 2003 Final Beta for Symbian development with Carbide.vs 2.0, you have to update your VS 2003 Final Beta with these things:

1 Download current version of Framework 1.1
2 Download service pack 1 for Framework 1.1
3 Download current version for J# redistributeable package

Now, we are starting to update the VS 2003 Final Beta for Carbide 2.0 environment.

4 Uninstall your current Framework 1.1
5 Uninstalla your current J# redistributeable package

    6 Install new Framework 1.1
7 Install new SP 1 for Framework 1.1
8 Install new J# redistributeable package

9 Install Carbide 2.0 for Symbian S60 with installation code

Any way, the installation order is not important, but the steps from 6 to 8
are the most important things you should perform on your computer before you are
able to use VS 2003 Final Beta with Carbide.vs 2.0

    It works.

What do you mean by VS 2003 Final Beta? Isn't the final version of VS 2003 (and even 2005) already out? Why do we need to rollback to the beta version?

    Antony,

There are a lot of developers that do not have much money for bying VS 2003 .NET Enterprise
Architect Release version ( hundreds of dollars and euros ).

Instead of bying Release version, you are able to use VS 2003 Final Beta for professional
purposes as hobbyist and just free of charge. Thanks to MS that they offer under the
curtains the possibility to use Final Beta as Release version of VS 2003.

    You got the idea ?

Thanks. I got the idea now... Where can we download it? I've googled it, but just got 404 error on Microsoft' site.

Btw, there is a Symbian plugin for Eclipse IDE too (open source), so we can do some developments for free.

Forum Nokia will also offer Carbide.C++ Express for free (based on Eclipse IDE) some time next year.

It is not any more possible to download VS 2003 Final Beta from MS' sites.
I think so, but only MS knows.

It is very common practise for MS, that before they start the new development work on VISUAL STUDIO, they offer possibility for developer to become as new Beta tester for new product under the development.

After testing, you may receive some kind of semi-final-product from MS,
that you can use as the final product - with liabale modifications.

    About Eclipse.

There is one problem with Eclipise based development environment ( free of charge tools ) that, there is no debugger with Eclipse based tools.

    Am i right ?

    Yes for the current Eclipse.
But, Nokia is preparing Carbide.C++ with supports debugging. Even Carbide.C++ Pro will support on-target-debugging too (but it's not free... :().

    Hi Antony

It took quite a long period since our latest discussion.
During that period i have found that you have released very good site
that discusses and gives very usefull notes for Symbian developers.

I like your style to take into account new comers on the Symbian C++
environment and your style to write articles that you publish.

And i like very much your "pioneer" way to explain Symbian/Nokia
development environment issues (like F32IMAGE.H article ).

I hope that, in near future, you will achieve the same position as
got those pioneers on MS envrinomnet about 20 years ago, who today
are writing articles on the Visual Studio Magazine.
