Licencing: Audio Codec in Series 60 Phones

    Hi All,

We have developed a media player which is compatible for Nokia Series 60 phones (Symbian 8.0a and above). In some phones (Nokia 6630, Nokia 6680 etc) there are inbuilt Audio codecs for MP3 and Wav songs.
Now We want to make this application as a product. I wanted to know if we can sell this media player without any licencing issues from Nokia for using their Audio codec? Is it OK to use the inbuilt codec with the media player?
If anybody have information or source of information, please let me know.

    Regards
    Girish

    Dear Petrib,

I had first logged into the Chinese Developers forum.
Would like more information on this and so I have logged the same on this which I expect would be seen by many developers and would get more dicussions.

Are you including any bluetooth midlet that will provide A2DP support?

I don't think any J2ME MIDlet can be written implement A2DP support for any phone (I doubt the J2ME environment allows sufficient control/hardware/low-level access).

    HI,

i would say that this is not an issue for you, since the app you sell does not embed the codec itself. Otherwise any app for instance on desktop that use patented algorithm in system libraries would have to pay royalties. Happily that is not the case.
