Smile (For beginners) Preparing and installing programming tools.

1- Run the Active Perl setup file (APi518e). Use all default installation options.

2- Install the SDK (nS60_sdk_v1_2). Use all default installation options. Create an empty file named "ErrRd" in the

    directory C:\Symbian\6.1\Series60\Epoc32\Wins\c\system\Bootdata.

3- Install Microsoft Debugging Tool (dbg_x86_6.5.3.8). Use all default installation options.

4- Create a subfolder named "MSDEV" in the directory named "Symbian" in partition C:\. Install Visual C++ Toolkit in

that subfolder, and use all other default installation options as they are. Now execute nmake15.exe, you get the files

NMAKE.exe, NMAKE.err and a ReadMe file. Neglect the ReadMe file and cut the two files NMAKE.exe and NMAKE.err and

paste them in the directory named "bin" located in C:\Symbian\MSDEV\bin. Also, copy the two files lib.exe and

dumpbin.exe to the previous directory (C:\Symbian\MSDEV\bin). Finally, add the string "C:\Symbian\MSDEV\bin;" to

the beginning of the path environment variable.

5- Install the Borland C++ BuilderX v1.5. The setup file is located in the directory named "Windows" located inside the

directory named "CBX1.5_mobile-RTM". Use all default installation options. Feed the activation file so as to get ready to

work with the C++ BuilderX. After Installation, you have to copy C:\Borland\CbuilderX1.5\bin\sdktools\bscmake.exe

    into c:\symbian\MSDEV\BIN.

    6- Please edit:

    C:\Symbian\6.1\Shared\EPOC32\Tools\BLDMAKE.BAT

    and change:

    perl -S bldmake.pl %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9

    into:

    perl -Ic:\symbian\6.1\shared\epoc32\tools -S bldmake.pl %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9

7- Install the JVM (java virtual machine) using the setup file named "jdk-1_5_0_01-windows-i586-p".

8- A restart is now highly recommended.

9- After restart, run C++ BuilderX and read pages number 8 and 9 from the pdf file located in the folder named

"Symbian OS Workshop". When you run your first project, you will have no errors if everything is configured properly.

10- There's a programming tutorial, named "Symbian OS Workshop" on the page:
    http://www.symbian.com/developer/tec...ingstarted.asp
This tutorial is excellent for beginners to Symbian programming. It contains solutions to some errors that may be encountered while building an application. Also, it contain links to download the necessary kits and tools.

..Many thank, and I wish you a great success.
