HelloWorldBasic: application icon doesn't appear on the cell-phone

    Hello everybody here.
I'm pleased to join this community.

I'm starting to learn developing applications for Nokia 6630.

Not without difficulties, I was at least able to compile the "HelloWorldBasic" example program provided with 2nd ed SDK FP2 1.0, using MS VSC6 IDE.

It runs fine on the PC-based phone emulator provided with the SDK.

I then tried to generate the .SIS file in order to install it on the real cell phone, but the compiler didn't generate any .aif file
(in the $\sis\HelloWorldBasic.pkg file there is the following entry:
    "..\..\..\epoc32\data\z\system\apps\HelloWorldBasic\HelloWorldBasic.aif" -"!:\system\apps\HelloWorldBasic\HelloWorldBasic.aif"
but the compiler didn't generate any HelloWorldBasic.aif file!)

I then tried to comment out this line from the pkg file then run again the makesis HelloWorldBasic.pkg command, and the HelloWorldBasic.SIS file was generated without having error messages displaied.
But, when installed on the cell-phone, no icon appeared in the application menu! It appears in the "Gestione applicazioni" ("Management Applications") menu, as it was an installed application, and I can view it is an installed application in the "Registro install." ("installing registry") of that application, but it has not any icon in the application menu!

    Where am I wrong?
Can any one help me? Do you need some more info?

    Please, let me know.

    Thank you in advance.

    - Umberto

Re: HelloWorldBasic: application icon doesn't appear on the cell-phone

    Hi Umberto,

In my HelloworldBasic .pkg file, I only have two entries:
HelloWorldBasic.app and HelloWorldBasic.rsc. Make sure the
App is taken from the "release\armi\urel" directory, as shown below.

    "C:\Programs\Symbian\7.0s\Series60_v21_CW\Epoc32\release\armi\urel\HelloWorldBasic.APP"-"!:\system\apps\HelloWorldBasic\HelloWorldBasic.app"
    "C:\Programs\Symbian\7.0s\Series60_v21_CW\Epoc32\data\z\system\apps\HELLOWORLDBASIC\HelloWorldBasic.rsc"-"!:\system\apps\HelloWorldBasic\HelloWorldBasic.rsc"

The .rsc file is made from the .rss file.

    /Andreas

It worked! (Re: HelloWorldBasic: application icon doesn't appear on the cell-phone)

Thank you very much, you were right!

The problem was about the target, I selected wins\urel (it was the only one provided by my IDE), instead I had to do:
    set EPOCROOT=\Symbian\8.0a\S60_2nd_FP2\
    bldmake bldfiles
    abld build armi urel
    cd ..\sis

(I've then modified the .pkg as your)
    makesis helloworldbasic.pkg

    It greatly worked!

    Thank you again.

    Regards,
    Umberto
