Exclamation How to optimize Binary Image Processing.. Please help!

i'm currently developing an application for 3650 that takes a picture of a phone number and tries to recognize it. I'm using SDK 1st edition.

The image captured by the camera is 640x480 (EColor16M)
and im accessing each pixel by get/set scanline.

I'm currently using a two dimensional array of integer (640x480) that represents each pixel whether it is a number or a background (1 or 0).

But i think this process takes TOO MUCH memory..What would be the most efficient way?

    Please help. tnx in advance!

I dunno if this will help, but if you are interested only in 0, 1 values you can always change from int to unsigned short int, which should be 4 times smaller.
And if that is not enought in one int (32bit value) you could always try to "pack" 32 "1/0" values.
