    Java - Compatibility

    Hallo,

i have a question regarding the compatibility of J2ME programs:
If a program is developed specifically just using MIDP1.0 libraries, is it possible to run it at any phone providing a J2ME MIDP1.0/2.0 runtime environment? Or after recompiling? Or only on Nokia phones? Or only on the same Nokia series? Or not at all?

    Thanks a lot,

    Maximilian

    Re: Java - Compatibility

A MIDP 1.0 app is supposed to run on any MIDP phone without any recompilation or repackaging. In practice the code might stumble on some device specific bugs, or use too many resources for a specific device, so it might still fail on a few devices.

And, of course, if also other JSR calls (such as JSR-82 & others) are used, but not implemented on the other devices, then the app won't work (the "plain" MIDP 1.0 APIs are not enough for lots of things).
