Re: How to run .sis file in emulator

AFAIK you cannot run your .sis file in the emulator. The emulator in the SDK needs source code compiled for the emulator using the same compiler that the emulator was compiled with. The emulator doesn't run binaries/executables compiled for the target phone (it emulates the Symbian OS environment, but not phone hardware).

BTW happy to hear from your post in Siemens discussion boards that your problem with getting started has been cleared after installing Active perl!

That is because it's not an emulator, but a simulator. Presuming you're talking about a sis file containing device binaries, you can't, but you could still create your own sis files with the win target binaries..

Yes you can run SIS files in the emulator, they have to have contain files built for the emulator of course that's all.

Re: How to run .sis file in emulator

    you could try following way-
    1. paste your sis on pc into the path C:\Symbian\8.1a\S60_2nd_FP3\Epoc32\winscw\c\Nokia\Installs\
    2. open emulator
    3. open Configure then open Appmngr (application manager)
    4. list of sis files appeared.
    5. select your sis press option and install it.

Above things will work to install jar application also.

Re: How to run .sis file in emulator

    Tried it.
When I tried to install it on the emulator, its giving me warning namely,
    "Application not compatible with phone"

I'm li'l baffled here...i've made made and tested the app on the same emulator.i've just made a sis file out of my code nd tried installing it.
How is the emulator showing,be not compatible with phone???

If i continue installing, its giving an error saying,"unable to install protected app form untrusted supplier" and i'm unable to install the sis.

Any clues..?? something i might be doing wrong..??
    thnx for ur suggestions...

Re: How to run .sis file in emulator

The compatibility warning comes from the "Series60ProductID" line you can see in .pkg files. If such line(s) is missing, or different from the one(s) supported by the device, the warning comes. Theoretically the related files exist in the emulators (series60vx.y.sis in epoc32\release\winscw\udeb\z\system\install), so the .pkg file may have some problem.
The untrusted thing probably means the same thing as it would mean on the phone: self-signing does not work with low-UID (protected) apps.

I would rather use a .zip file (in fact, I would use .rar).

Search for sis emulator in the Wiki, I have a feeling that you have not read that article yet.

Re: How to run .sis file in emulator

No, I meant putting the deployable files into a .zip. You can either create some magic .bat file from the .pkg (which contains the list of files already) using a command-line archiver (there seem to be a zip.exe in epoc32\tools), or just build an epoc32 folder containing your files only (release\winscw\udeb\your.exe, release\winscw\udeb\z\resource\apps\your.rsc, etc.), and compress that one with any utility, including right-click+Send to compressed folder.

Re: How to run .sis file in emulator

It is expected to be possible creating a .sis file for the emulator (see article referred in #9). However that would be a special case.
Executable binary files (.exe and .dll) are different for the emulator and for the device. So it is not possible to install a game to the emulator for example. Skins, themes, multimedia content might be tested successfully.
